Cotton Cookie
The elderly Camelia Cotton- often known simply as Cotton, Grandma Cotton, and even 'Ms. Cookie' given her habit of baking- is a warm sight at Courtsheart. She hobbles about between her classes and checks in with most that she knows, often asking about their evening before going on her way. A dilligent student, she spends much of her free time either baking in the kitchens, or knitting near a fire. Her patience knows no bounds, and her sense of humor seems suitably dark for one hailing from the far North- it seems the Blue Court suits her.

The rooms Cotton calls her own are simple, as are all Novice bedrooms. Entering the room one can see the bed, which is neatly made and typically uncurtained. At the side with the writing desk and bookshelf there are signs of some use, but it is clear Cotton spends most studying time within the libraries and classrooms; it is easier to have one weigh in on her work, and to weigh in on other's works that way.

The other end with the wardrobe and dressing area is simple- the screen is constantly unfolded, as Cotton finds it troublesome to be constantly putting it away, and she often uses the chair there to simply knit in during the evenings. In the attached washroom there is kept a chair for in her shower, though she looks forward to no longer needing it. Cotton often leaves her entire room unlocked, with the exception being when she is in it- if one knocks, she'll typically let them in. Often struggles not to call those around her 'dear', as she's more used to being the eldest in the room.

appearance
Somewhat hunched, though her recovering health on the path to vampirism seems to be lessening this feature. Cotton has a soft voice and a gentle presence, dressing in warm and full dresses with shawls she often knits for herself. She's a very stout old woman, whose face shows her age, but she often wears a smile no matter the situation. At first blush, Cotton seems to express the same amount of kindness to everyone- close fellows will note however, that she often puts a little extra details in her work for those she's fond of. Her eye color bleed forms rings.

background
Born to a small village in the far, far north of Blue Court's territory, Camelia Cotton lived in a place where winters were long, and people were scarce. Her village banded together in a group emphasizing the benefits of cooperation and community for the sake of survival, a thing that Cotton would grow to live by.

Despite the frigidity of the region, her village would specialize in sheep trade- wool, meat, and even dairy were provided by the sheep, and Cotton would spend much of her life dangerously keeping watch over these sheep in a place where wolves were a real and great threat. Perhaps more than even the vampiric 'nightmares' they told old traditional tales about.

To that end, Cotton would be among the luckiest shepherds, and became beloved by her community for her kindness and caring. She would in particular make use of her free time to help others- one such person being a constantly ill boy close to her age, who the village could only make comfortable as they awaited the end. News of this boy apparently reached the court of Silver however- and so Cotton would come to her friend's home in time to watch as he was beguiled and led astray into the snow.

Rather than hide away or run in fear, Cotton would follow her friend until the Silver Vampire drawing him away took notice. Preparing for an inevitable casualty, the vampire would be pleasantly surprised when Cotton's only request was permission to say goodbye to her friend; a human mercy, but one that would not hinder their own desires. Cotton bid her friend farewell, and from there spent many, many years living a quiet and relatively peaceful life. She would outgrow her task of shepherding, watching and mentoring others in the field- often finding herself faced with their deaths in the process. Rather than marry and begin her own family, she would weather the unforgiving winters by instead helping with the children of others whilst their parents worked. Helping to cook, helping to create clothing, and so on.

This would persist for many years- until finally, just when it seemed she would be approaching her end, the Blue Court arrived at their tiny village with a sack of feathers for their Lottery. As was required, all would draw from the sack- and Cotton would draw out a White feather.

Arriving at the Castle, Camelia Cotton would thus step forward into an unexpected form of 'an end', one quite different to what she expected of her coming year or so. After all- this 'end' would bring forward a 'Beginning.'

NAME: Usagi
CONTACT: [plurk.com profile] usagisquared
ACTIVE TIMES/PACE: EST Nights; Quick when time overlaps, but assume 'slow' due to time mismatch.
BRACKETS/PROSE: Either is fine; I'll match
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: If possible, please avoid topics relating to Digital Existentialism (ie 'the world is fake here's why'), as well as detailed focus on tongues/saliva.

IN CHARACTER

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Grandma loves hugs! She'll happily peck someone affectionately on the cheek as well, and will roll with similar in turn. For a kiss on the lip or more however, please message in advance!
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Message first to plan in advance please.
RELATIONSHIPS: Grandma is available, but while she might appreciate young adults from afar, she wouldn't be comfortable with making a serious move with anyone more than 10 years younger than she is. (For quick reference, she is 74)
PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: Please ask in advance before digging in; it's easier to come up with information of this sort during thread planning.
MAGICAL INFORMATION: N/A for the time being.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: She's quite old as noted- 74- but in relatively good health all things considered. She's only improving now as a novice, but for the time being is still someone to be considered rather frail, and less than athletic.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: None come to mind at the moment, but this may change.

OUT OF CHARACTER

BACKTAGGING: Absolutely!
THREADHOPPING: Sure, but message first!
FOURTHWALLING: Ask first but I'm not sure how likely it would be to begin with...
NOT INTERESTED IN: While some of my characters may be down for sexual interactions, I unfortunately am not comfortable threading smut on screen. If things begin moving in that direction, we need to fade to black and handwave from there.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

VISUAL: Cotton is fairly pale, given the lack of plentiful sun far north. Her hair is kept in a short bob, and is sheer white from age. Her eyes are a pale blue at the moment, and she's quite short and stout; something only emphasized by dressing in thick robes and knit shawls or furs.
AURAL: She can be heard here.
OLFACTORY: Often smells like fresh baked goods; she loves to bake!
DEMEANOUR: Cotton is very peaceful seeming, and with her tendency not to react strongly to much, this is only emphasized. Very patient and kind, she's quite the image of a fairytale grandmother.

Character Information

Character Name: Cotton Cookie
Character Pronouns: She/Her
Canon: Cookie Run Kingdom
Canon Age: 70+ ..? (It's unknown, as she's simply considered 'Elderly')
Canon Point: Icicle Yeti's Winter Song
Canon Link: Cotton Cookie's History is here- however, the site doesn't note personalities down, so I'm summarizing that below.

Cotton Cookie's foremost trait in the series, young and old, is ultimately her kind nature. Many of the traits displayed in her youth are retained in her age, but this is the one which shines through most. From the young girl who took time out of her day to care for and tend to a sickly friend, to the girl-and eventual-elder who knit gifts for a deity on the regular, her heart is something she opens for all whom she meets...no matter their initial seeming intentions.

As an empathetic person, she could be brought to tears at the thought of her friends experiencing pain or danger- and as an elderly woman, while not seen to cry on screen, she has shown clear worry and fuss at the very idea of even relative strangers meeting harm. Notably, she is never seen to grow truly angry- though she shouted and argued with the Frost Queen in her youth, she was quick to default to trust and kindness, despite having little reason to believe in the Queen's own words.

Cotton has never been 'all fluff' however; she's a ferociously determined and brave one, perhaps more so due to the seeming lack of anger in her. Aside from merely putting herself out for the sake of others as an old woman- traversing the cold as long as possible to deliver her gifts, and even then doing what was possible to visit others who could deliver things in her stead- her younger and more energetic self was more than willing to venture across frigid wilds to even secure a chance to help her friend; something she knew was not necessarily a guarantee, however much she hoped it would be. This determination was such that she took this trek even at the cost of her body- Cotton was injured during this time, and could have lost her own life as well. Even before this, she boldly declared to her friend that she would fight off any who would take him with her very staff. ...Not that such blows were ever traded of course.

For all that the elderly cookie doesn't have such strength to prove herself in her age, this is clearly the same person however matured and weakened in age. Even still she speaks only of the best of people as she sees it, aiding others of her village with a caring heart. She is perhaps a little melancholic at times- remembering in her dreams that friend of hers she risked her life to save- but Cotton keeps an optimistic view on the world around her, acting as a light for all around her.

AU Information

AU Name: Camellia Cotton (known as 'Grandma Cotton', and 'Cotton' in prose)
AU Age: 74
Physical Differences: Well. She's not a cookie. [Canned Laughter Here]

Camelia has the apperance of a wizened old woman, her hair long white with age, and her skin pale from a lack of sun. She originally dressed in thick pelts and knit accessories from her village, but after arriving to the castle this has been trimmed down to gowns, furs, and most notably knit shawls. The old woman stands rather short- only 5 foot- and has a somewhat thick build. Lots of 'circles' in that silhouette!
AU History:
  • Camelia was born in a small village far far north in Blue court territory; winters were long, people scarce, and as such very close knit for their own safety.
  • Despite the northern region, one of the livelihoods of the village was sheep- for wool, for meat, and even occasional dairy.
  • Growing up, Camelia was a shepherd to these sheep- a dangerous responsibility, as more than any vampire, the village's primary threat was often creatures like wolves. And a young teenager with a stick...even one with a lantern on the end, was not much threat to such things.
  • Still, whether through luck or otherwise, Camelia survived where many others did not. While not tending to sheep, she often helped with other duties within the village, including the care of a sickly friend just a bit older than herself.
  • While watching over this friend, he would one day wander out into the snow- beckoned, or perhaps beguiled by someone. Camelia followed, quickly drawing the attention of the Silver Court vampire leading the young man away.
  • Camelia wouldn't argue too intensely with the vampire- while she didn't want to lose her friend, the boy would insist it for the best. Thus, the vampire allowed them the human mercy of a final goodbye, before disappearing with him...no doubt to be studied and preserved for his lifelong disease.
  • From here Camelia would continue a quiet- save more mundane terrors- life. She would outgrow the task of shepherding, and watch as others followed in her footsteps...often perishing. She would last through frigid famine winters, helping to teach the younger children while their parents oversaw other duties, helping to cook, create necessary clothing, and so on.
  • Eventually, close to what should have been the end of Camelia's life, a Finding would make its way up to the tiny sleepy village up north. It was not her first, scarce as they were- but this time, she pulled a white feather.
  • How Camelia survived the trip to the castle is perhaps a mystery, but the point is she did. She arrived, and as such underwent her Beginning, and along with it perhaps the dubious honor of being potentially older than some of the staff! ...Go Grandma.

AU Personality: The first point of obvious note is that Cotton isn't limited by the media portrayal of her canon- while CRK doesn't avoid heavy topics such as death and mortality, it very much glosses it for the sake of potentially younger audiences. That aside-

What with growing to a ripe old age in a land of vampires and more, Cotton has under her hat experience with a great matter of these darker points of reality. This hasn't changed her kindness, or even her determination, but it has added a layer of 'coping' one might say. Much like the Blue Court in itself perhaps, Cotton tends to focus on cheering others rather than dwelling on the darkness in the world...but in the same way, she's someone who can calmly talk about such darkness, accepting its presences and responding to it with a gentle hand. While capable of a firm tone when someone presses this patience, she finds calm disapproval works better for her, and thus prefers not to resort to raising her voice and shouting anymore. Violence only begets sour moods at best and more violence at worst, and she simply hasn't got time for it.

No shade to anyone else though; Cotton's accepting nature isn't a change exactly, but as with many of her personality 'changes', it's an elaboration that moves beyond the limits of her canon media. She doesn't judge most for their actions, however questionable they may be- she does her best to see it from the other perspective, offering advice for those who need it, and comfort for those with heavy hearts. And if need be, maybe even a little jab at 'the point' of a matter. Sometimes a needlepoint hard truth is what's needed, the salt in any sweet treat.

On a final note, she's an old single woman, but that doesn't mean she was always single; which is to say, she knows what happens at some of those parties, and isn't above commenting on it with a sly little smile.

  • Novice Information

    Starting Season: First Season
    Maker: Foundling
Anticipated Court: At the moment, there's no true anticipation here; Cotton is coming in as a Lottery Pick from the North, which means she's someone who could feasibly be matched with any Maker in need of a Novice.

That aside, if it comes down to various choices (as much as I'm still very amused by the gag idea of her getting along with Black court best), Blue is the most likely option. Cotton's canonic source and story involves a lot of the Blue Court's motto, with celebration and remembrance incredibly key.
